2001-2003 Toyota Prius Drivers Can Expect a Fix in Recent Recall

While we at Magnussen's Toyota of Palo Alto would love to keep wowing you with news about new Toyota models like the 4Runner and Venza, we realize that every now and then, something comes along that is more important. And, with Toyota's most recent recall, that is exactly the case. We would like to take a minute to discuss this recall, and more importantly, what can be done to fix it.

The recall affects roughly 52,000 Toyota Prius drivers who have purchased 2001-2003 Toyota Prius models. On an international scale, this number climbs even further to about 100,000, so it goes without saying that this is an issue that the Japanese automaker is taking quite seriously. The exact problem stems from the electric power steering shaft and attachment nuts in the vehicle needing to be replaced. As a part of this recall, Toyota is asking 2001-2003 Prius owners to specifically watch the performance of their steering wheel when driving.

When observing how the steering wheel is performing, Toyota advises that drivers pay close attention to how often the steering wheel turns to the full-lock position. If it does this on a regular basis, Toyota's fix may need to be applied. The reason why this fix needs to be applied in this instance is because the nuts securing the pinion shaft in the steering gear assembly box have loosened. Over time this can result in drivers having a harder time making left hand turns.

To help drivers who are experiencing this problem with their vehicles, Toyota is asking that all of their dealerships across the country, including us at Magnussen's Toyota of Palo Alto - Magnussen's Toyota of Palo Alto Palo Alto, CA 94306 - fix this issue free of charge. Please remember that if you are experiencing trouble making left hand turns to contact our service department at 877-660-8696.
