Recommended Oil Change Schedule for Toyota Vehicles

You might remember the old adage that said you should be changing the oil in your vehicle every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever milestone you hit first. However, this is no longer the recommendation that most manufacturers recommend. The advancement in engine technology and the emergence of synthetic motor oil have significantly extended the time frame between oil changes.

Toyota recommends changing the oil in their vehicles every 6 months or 5,000 miles unless the oil you are using is 0w-20 synthetic motor oil. In this case, you can double that time frame to every 12 months and 10,000 miles. However, if you are using 0w-20, you should still check your oil levels regularly and add more oil when necessary.

Oil Change Importance for Toyota Vehicles

Now that you know how often you should be changing the oil in your Toyota, let’s explore why oil changes are important in the first place. Over time, the oil used within your engine will degrade and become sludgy. The oil will also be slowly mixed in with debris and other elements as well.

Oil that is sludgy or contains additional debris will not lubricate the engine as well as it is designed to. This can lead to engine performance issues and even potential damage if not corrected. So, we flush the oil out the engine and replace it with new oil on a regular basis to keep your Toyota vehicle’s engine running as strong as it can.

If you have any questions about oil changes and why they are important, then you should feel free to contact our staff here at Toyota Palo Alto to learn more today!
